Primary Day is coming

January 29th, 2008 · No Comments

We’d like to remind you that the Presidential Primary in New York State will be held on Tuesday, February 5th this year. Voting hours are, as usual, from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM.

The Democratic Primary ballot will appear in the upper-left corner of the voting machine. You will get a total of seven votes: one vote for the Presidential Candidate, five votes for delegates from our Congressional District, and one vote for an alternate delegate, who will attend the convention if one of the elected delegates is unable to attend. You are free to mix and match candidates, delegates, and alternates in any way you desire, as long as you vote for at most one candidate, five delegates, and one alternate. Please note that although some candidates have dropped out of the contest, their names still remain on the ballot.

The vote is not “winner take all.” Instead, the state-wide vote for the candidate (in column 1) will determine a total of 81 delegates. Votes for delegates from the Congressional Districts (columns 2-6 and 7) are in addition, and the winners will constitute a separate pool of 151 delegates, five from our district. Beyond this, there are 49 so-called superdelegates from New York State, not pledged to any candidate. Together, this makes up New York’s total of 281 delegates to the August convention
