Pound Ridge Democratic Committee Announces Fall Slate

On June 8, 2011, the Pound Ridge Democratic Committee unanimously voted to support the candidacy of Honorable Regina Kelly for Town Justice and resident and community leader, Ali Boak for an open Town Board seat. Regina Kelly, currently a sitting Town Justice in Pound Ridge, is seeking her sixth term in office. The Town Board position became an “open seat” when current Town Board member Paul McConville publically announced in May that he will not be seeking re-election due to upcoming plans to move out of Pound Ridge.

“The Pound Ridge Democratic Committee in Pound Ridge is very energized.” says Pound Ridge Democratic Committee Chairwoman Roslyn Stone-Pollock. “This past November our get out the vote efforts produced a win in Pound Ridge for former Congressman John Hall who ultimately lost his seat in 2010. We ran a great local campaign in 2009 and are positioned to run an even better one this year.”

According to Ali Boak “I am honored to have been selected by the Pound Ridge Democratic Committee to run for this seat. I have a lot of ideas on how we can make Pound Ridge the best that it can be through leadership, hard work, and collaboration.”

And Justice Kelly said, “I am proud and humbled to be running for my sixth term as Town Justice of Pound Ridge. I will continue to serve the Town, New York’s judicial system, and uphold the law.”

Ali Boak, Town Board Candidate

Ali Boak has a distinguished track record of volunteer service and community activism. She served as a US Peace Corps volunteer and a Fulbright Scholar in Latvia from 1994-1997. In 1999, upon graduating from the Mailman School of Public Health of Columbia University, Ali co-founded the International Organization for Adolescents (IOFA), an independent, non-profit organization working globally to address emerging problems facing vulnerable youth. In this capacity, she is a co-founder of the Westchester Anti-Trafficking Task Force. She has been actively locally serving on the Bedford Central School District’s Budget Advisory Committee; chairing the School Board Liaison Committee for Pound Ridge Elementary School (2009-2010); serving as a Brownie leader for a 3^rd Grade Troop in Pound Ridge, member of the Town of Pound Ridge Ad-Hoc Committee on Sensible Airspace, and co-founder and Board Member of the Pound Ridge Partnership. She lives in Pound Ridge with her husband and their four daughters.

Regina Kelly, Town Justice Candidate

Regina Kelly has served as one of two Town Justices since 1992, ten years after receiving her law degree from Fordham University School of Law. She served as a Village Prosecutor, and practices law in White Plains. Regina is admitted to practice in the courts of New York, Connecticut, the Southern and Eastern Federal Districts of New York, the Federal District of Connecticut and the Supreme Court of the United States. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association, Connecticut Bar Association, the Westchester County Magistrates Association, New York State Magistrates Association and the New York Collaborative Law Group, and has served as a trustee of the Westchester County Magistrates Association and the Pound Ridge Historical Society. Her decisions as Pound Ridge Town Justice have been published in the New York Law Journal. Regina and her husband John have lived in Pound Ridge for 30 years where they raised their two sons.

Pound Ridge Democratic Committee Welcomes New District Leader Ira Clair

Ira Clair, a ten year resident of Pound Ridge, is the Pound Ridge Democratic Committee’s newest District Leader. Ira is a founding partner of the law firm, Clair and Gjertsen and an adjunct law professor at several area colleges. Mr. Clair is a recognized expert in foreclosure and serves as a referee, guardian ad litem and Scar hearing officer. Prior to moving to Pound Ridge nearly a decade ago, Ira lived in New Rochelle for nearly twenty years and was involved various activities and municipal boards there.

According to Mr. Clair, “ I am excited to be part of a newly energized Pound Ridge Democratic Committee It is essential to have a real two party system in town so that there is continuing productive dialogue rather than the status quo. Ali Boak is a very appearing breath of fresh air who personifies what I mean. I am gratified to be able to play a part.”

Roslyn Stone-Pollock, chairperson of the PRDC, said of Mr. Clair, “ We are delighted to have Ira Clair join the Pound Ridge Democratic Committee as a District Leader. He brings experience, legal expertise and a new perspective. He has already made significant contributions and I look forward to working with him going forward.”

Pound Ridge Democrats Announce Candidates For Town Offices

The Pound Ridge Democratic Committee is pleased to announce the candidacies of Alison Boak for Town Board and Andrew Brodnick for Town Justice.

Alison serves on the Pound Ridge Ad-Hoc Committee for Sensible Airspace and leads a community effort aimed at protecting residents’ well water from pesticide contamination from the Pound Ridge Golf Course. She was appointed to the Bedford Central School District’s Budget Advisory Committee by Superintendant Dr. Jere Hochman. Alison, a mother of four daughters — who attend Pound Ridge Community Church Play School, Pound Ridge Elementary School, and Fox Lane Middle School — also volunteers as leader of the Pound Ridge First Grade Brownie Troop. A Fulbright Scholar and former Peace Corps volunteer,

Alison is currently co-founder and president of the International Organization for Adolescents (IOFA), a non-profit group dedicated to preventing child slavery and trafficking.

“I am honored to accept the Democratic Town Committees nomination and am running to make a difference in Pound Ridge for my children and for all of us,” Alison Boak said. “I plan to be an accessible board member and to be responsive to community needs in a way that is urgent, efficient, and focused.”

Andrew Brodnick has been a member of the Pound Ridge Planning Board for 13 years, and previously served on the Pound Ridge Landmarks Commission for 5 years. He joined the Pound Ridge Lions Club in 2002, and will begin serving as president of the Lions Club in July. Since 2005, he has been in-house general counsel for Camarda Realty Investments, LLC.

Previously, Andrew was a litigator in New York City and White Plains for 20 years. His experience includes municipal litigation, land-use litigation, civil rights cases, title disputes, foreclosures, landlord/tenant law, and leasing and construction litigation. He has appeared before the New York State trial courts and appellate courts, and the United States District Courts and the United States Bankruptcy Courts.

Andrew ran for Pound Ridge Town Justice in 2005 and garnered 47% of the vote against the incumbent Republican. “I look forward to running again and am pleased to be on the Democratic line with Alison. She has a distinguished record of public service, and will undoubtedly make a great addition to the Town Board.”

Pound Ridge Democratic Committee Elects New Chair

The Pound Ridge Democratic Committee unanimously elected Roslyn Stone-Pollock as its new chairwoman. Ms. Stone-Pollock has been a resident of Pound Ridge since 1982, a district leader since 2007 and has been active in Democratic efforts for more than a decade.

Most Pound Ridge Democrats know Roslyn for her large and active pre-election phone banks. She has coordinated, hosted and fed phone bankers for the PRDC, John Hall for Congress, voter registration initiatives and the DNC through many campaigns.

The Pound Ridge Democratic Committee’s members include Ali Boak, Mark Slivka (Treasurer), Tara Packer (Secretary), Dr. John Maddocks and Elyse Arnow. John Maddocks has played a pivotal role in the LEED certification for the new community center.

Regarding Ms. Stone-Pollock, Ali Boak said “I believe Roslyn Stone-Pollock has the vision, energy, and skills to lead the Democrats of Pound Ridge in a way we’ve never been led before! Under Roslyn’s direction, we have successfully completed a thorough strategic planning process developing action plans to move the Democratic Committee in Pound Ridge forward as a force for positive change in the community.”

The Pound Ridge Democratic Committee has had a truly extraordinary year. From a dinner late last year for 40 registered Democrats who had never before attended any local political function to a gregarious Inaugural Celebration at Conant Hall, Pound Ridge Dems have been more active and involved than ever before.

The mission of the Pound Ridge Democratic Committee is to be the local organization formally tied to the National and State Democratic Committees responsible for promoting and organizing local campaign activities. The Committee’s mission includes raising awareness and participation of Pound Ridge voters in local democratic issues, events and campaigns.

Regarding her new position, Ms. Stone-Pollock said, “I am excited about the positive course of the Pound Ridge Democratic Committee and look forward to providing leadership in my new role.
